Coffee meeting

From thursday august 12 2021  7:00 p.m. to thursday august 12 2021  9:00 p.m.

Hello,

We are pleased to invite you to our coffee meeting this Thursday, August 12 at 7:00 pm. This week’s theme will be: "What is the vacation season like with your grandchildren?

It is very important that you register by clicking on this link before Thursday, August 12, at least one hour before the meeting begins. After that, we may not have enough time to send you the ZOOM link.

For those who have registered early, we will send you the ZOOM link on Thursday morning and at 6:00 pm for the last registrations.

For your information, family law reform will take place in two phases. The first phase will take place before the holidays. The themes will be: filiation in the interest of the child, co-parenthood, surrogate motherhood and gender identity.

The theme that interests grandparents among these is that of filiation. Since 2004, the Association has been calling for a reform concerning the filiation of the child. It is particularly painful for grandparents, who have devoted themselves to their grandchildren, to learn that they have legally become foreigners because of their so-called "plenary" adoption, without their knowledge.

This will be the moment to make the grandparents’ point of view heard in order to correct this deplorable situation.

The second phase will deal with conjugality. It is within this phase that the rights of grandparents could be significantly diminished by the amendment of article 611 of the Civil Code. The burden of proof could be much heavier for grandparents. Grandparents could take a back seat to the ex-spouses of either parent.

It will be important for a broad coalition of seniors’ organizations to oppose such a setback for grandparents.

Our discussions and your ideas will further assist the Association in preparing its strategy to protect the rights of grandparents and their grandchildren.

Best regards,

Henri Lafrance, President
Monic Avoine, vice-president
Quebec Grandparents Association
